The restaurant - the cornerstone

Since 1971, the doors of our restaurant have been open to guests from all over the world - a meeting place for locals and visitors to the valley.

It all began with a pipe dream of the young senior landlady Rosmarie - the attraction of having her own café after training as a restaurant specialist was great. It was a crazy idea at the time, as Norbert & Rosemarie had their hands full with their parents' screed and floor laying business. Despite lengthy deliberation, the licence was granted in 1971, but not for a café as desired, but with the condition of a restaurant with at least 100 seats. This was because in the 1960s there was great demand for catering for day trippers coming from the Silvretta High Alpine Road. And so the former carpet warehouse was converted into our current restaurant.

"Old glamour and a breath of fresh air"

Our kitchen follows the same philosophy. Traditional Austrian dishes from the old Viennese cuisine, such as roast onion, Wiener Schnitzel or Kaiserschmarren, are an essential part of our menu. Dishes such as local saddle of venison or venison schnitzel show our wild side and the burgers and dry-aged steaks from the charcoal grill show our hearty side. You will also find vegetarian and vegan dishes on our large menu.

Every evening and at lunchtime on Sundays & public holidays

Different marbling in meat results from different traditions of animal husbandry. Domestic meat, for example, has a lower fat content due to the stronger muscles resulting from the slopes. This is in contrast to our American steak, which is characterised by a much finer marbling and a higher fat content. Cattle from our supplier in Nebraska, USA, have an average run of 2 km2.

Our dry aged steaks come from the charcoal grill with our own irresistible secret seasoning.

All year round, our kitchen conjures up excellent game dishes from classic venison schnitzel to venison steak using products from local hunts. Our game dishes have won several awards and our Restaurant Vermala Ursprung is one of the best game restaurants in Vorarlberg.

Every year from 1 October

During our annual game weeks, you will find a particularly large selection of game dishes on our menu, with over 25 game dishes promising a wild culinary experience. But don't worry, for non-poachers there is still a large part of our regular menu.

The Vermala Ursprung restaurant was recognised as the best game restaurant in Vorarlberg by Vol.at in 2018. We are also an annual fixture among the top restaurants in Vorarlberg at #vorarlbergisst. We are very proud of our kitchen team.

  • Dinner cuisine from 17:30 to 21:00
