At Vermala Wirt in Montafon, located at 1,485 metres, guests are treated to homemade Austrian specialities such as Wiener schnitzel, burgers, Käsespätzle and Kaiserschmarren – or a well-deserved cold drink after a long, hot day of hiking. Located along the treasure-hunt trail, Vermala Wirt is a wonderful excursion destination for guests of all ages. The secluded and unspoilt Verwall region, with its mystical moorland landscapes, is reminiscent of the Scandinavian tundra. One outstanding example is picturesque Lake Langsee, located at an altitude of 1,950 metres in the upper Silbertal within the Natura 2000 Verwall protected area. Equally impressive is Lake Wiegensee, the oldest natural reservoir in Montafon, which lies within a protected European conservation area.

Shorter Day Hike in Montafon
Start at the church in Bartholomäberg and follow the signs towards Rellseck via the district of Linde. After approximately 1.5 hours and an ascent of 410 metres through rural landscapes and woodland paths, you will reach Rellseck, where impressive views across Bludenz, the Walgau and the Swiss mountains await. You can also stop for refreshments at Gasthaus Rellseck. There are two routes to the well-known photo spot at Lake Fritzensee: either take the shorter route along Torraseeweg, the access road, or walk via the hunting lodge, adding approximately 200 metres of ascent along a particularly beautiful hiking trail. From Lake Fritzensee, return to the starting point via the visitor mine.

Family-Friendly Hike in Montafon
Start at an altitude of 1,450 metres at the Kristbergbahn mountain station and follow the signs towards Wildried. Pass the Sieben Brünnele Kneipp area before reaching Wildried, the highest elevated moor in Europe, and continue into the Wasserstubental. A detour to the lower Wasserstubenalpe is well worthwhile. Our insider tip is the Gretschbach waterfall, a protected natural monument at an altitude of 1,450 metres.
Following the Wasserstubenbach stream, continue into Silbertal until you reach the Kristbergbahn valley station. Refreshment stops include Hasahüsli and Gasthof Fellimännli, which also has a playground.

Hiking in the Silvretta
The challenging and untamed Silvretta, characterised by its imposing glaciers and striking peaks above 3,000 metres, presents a special challenge for mountain enthusiasts. The highest peak in the Silvretta is Piz Buin, rising impressively to an altitude of 3,312 metres.

Day Hike in Montafon
Take the public bus to the toll station for the Silvretta Bielerhöhe in Partenen. The route climbs steeply through the forest to Vallüla Alpe before continuing towards the summit of Breitspitz.
At the top, magnificent panoramic views extend across the peaks of the Silvretta and Verwall, the Silvretta Hochalpenstraße and the Vermunt and Kops reservoirs. The end of the Montafon valley is particularly beautiful from here. Continue towards Zeinisjoch and return by public bus via the Silvretta.

Half-Day Hike in Montafon
This is a particularly beautiful ridge hike in Montafon. Take the Versettlabahn in Gaschurn to the Versettla mountain station and begin the tour at Nova Stoba at an altitude of 2,000 metres.
The route follows a beautiful ridge through mountain pines to the Gantekopf viewpoint before continuing across Weiße Platte to the Garfrescha Maisäß settlement at an altitude of 1,500 metres.
From there, take the Garfrescha Bahn into the valley or continue on foot, adding approximately 600 metres of descent. The route is also highly rewarding in the opposite direction. Vermala Wirt on Garfrescha offers a welcoming place to stop for refreshments.

Challenging Day Hike in Montafon
Travel towards Lake Silvretta and continue by public bus to the car park at the Kops reservoir. The first highlight awaits directly at the start: the 90-metre-high arched dam of the Kops reservoir.
Follow the signs towards Breitspitz, which offers sensational views and can either be climbed or bypassed. Continue towards the lower Vallüla lake at 2,150 metres and then through peaceful mountain scenery to the upper Vallüla lake at 2,300 metres. The highest point of the tour is Vallülajoch at 2,520 metres, situated between the Kleine Vallüla and Große Vallüla. The route then descends towards the Silvretta Bielerhöhe and Lake Silvretta.

Day Hike in Montafon
Travel along the toll section of the Silvretta Hochalpenstraße to the Silvretta Bielerhöhe and begin the hike beside Lake Silvretta. Follow the route along the left-hand side of the lake, cross the Bieltal dam and continue through the Bieltal towards Radsattel, the highest point of the tour. Impressive panoramic views extend across the Silvretta and its peaks above 3,000 metres, including Piz Buin, Silvrettahorn and Dreiländerspitze.
After a short descent, you will reach the Wiesbadener Hütte – the perfect place to stop for refreshments. Continue along the summer trail, turning behind the hut near the Marienkapelle, and return through the Ochsental to the Bielerhöhe.

Day Hike in Montafon
This secluded two-valley tour begins at the hikers’ car park beyond the Gargellen mountain lifts. Follow the stream into the Valzifenzer Valley, passing Madrisahütte, which is not staffed, and continue towards Valzifenzer Alpe.
On the way towards Valzifenzer Joch, you pass an old stone customs guardhouse which witnessed tragedies during the Second World War. Valzifenzer Joch, situated at the foot of Rotbühelspitze at an altitude of 2,460 metres, is the highest point of the tour. Continue towards Rotbühel and enter the Vergaldental. The route then passes Vergalden Alpe – where you can enjoy buttermilk – before returning to Gargellen.

The hike begins at the Grüneck mountain station of the Golmerbahn. Park at the Latschau middle station before taking the lift.The route leads past Alpe Oberlatschätz and follows a beautiful cultural hiking trail into the wild and romantic Gauertal. At the foot of the Drei Türme, the Lindauer Hütte awaits in an impressive mountain setting.
Just below the hut, the trail branches off towards Untere Sporaalpe at the first bend. Continue past Gauertalhaus before returning to Latschau.

Themed Hike in Montafon
Discover glimpses into the past, present and future of a small mountain village near the Swiss border. The name Gargellner Fenster is derived from the geological rock window found in Gargellen. The best place to begin the circular route is at the bridge over the Vergaldner Bach, above the car park of the Gargellen mountain lifts.
Highlights along the way include the historic lime kiln, Gitzistee, traditional Maisäß buildings, alpine meadows and much more. During the alpine pasture season, you can stop for refreshments at Ronggalpe or at one of the establishments in Gargellen. A highly rewarding hike!

Relaxed Half-Day Hike in Montafon
Begin in Gaschurn at the car park beside the fire station and follow the signs towards Ganeu and Ganeratal. At the first bend in the mountain road, the hiking trail branches off into the Fenga Tobel. The mystical gorge takes its name from the Fengga, ill-tempered female mountain spirits from local folklore. A detour to the waterfall is highly recommended.
At the end of the gorge, you reach the Ganeu Maisäß. Continue towards Lifinar and the Schwizer Hüsli junction. The hut is not staffed. The route then leads past Lammhütta and across Gundalatscher Berg back to Gaschurn. Not recommended in wet conditions.

Post-Meal Walk in Montafon
Walk from Genusshotel Vermala towards the Garfrescha Bahn and continue up the valley along the right-hand side of the River Ill. This takes you to the Bi da Brönna Kneipp area in Gortipohl, meaning “by the springs”, where several springs rising from deep within the mountain meet. The water temperature reaches a maximum of 10°C, offering the perfect opportunity to cool down and relax. Return to the church in Gortipohl and follow the meadow path back to the hotel.

Post-Meal Walk in Montafon
Set off directly from Genusshotel Vermala and walk up the valley. After passing the Hüttner Kapelle, turn onto the hiking trail leading into the Hüttner Tobel. After approximately 300 metres, you reach the meadow path. From there, follow the signs towards the Balbier Waterfall and return along the same route.
Alpine waterfalls produce a finely dispersed, highly concentrated aerosol in their immediate surroundings that can penetrate deep into the respiratory system.

Post-Meal Walk in Montafon
Set off directly from Genusshotel Vermala and walk up the valley. After passing the Hüttner Kapelle, turn onto the hiking trail into the Hüttner Tobel. After approximately 300 metres, you reach the meadow path. Follow the signs towards the centre of St. Gallenkirch. Once you reach the village centre, continue past the cemetery below the church and join the cycle path beside the River Ill. Cross the bridge over the Ill and walk up the valley along an enchanting woodland trail on the right-hand side of the river. Approximately 30 metres beyond the Garfrescha Bahn, cross the more than 100-year-old covered bridge to the opposite side of the river and return to the Hüttner Tobel. From there, only another 50 metres of ascent separate you from the Hüttner Kapelle beside the hotel.
